Environmental racism describes how pollution, industrial projects, and climate harm disproportionately affect Indigenous and racialized communities.

Bill C-226 became law in June 2024. Environment and Climate Change Canada is developing the required national strategy, with engagement continuing through 2026.

Environmental justice movements connect land defence with health, housing, and treaty rights — not treating pollution as isolated from colonial history.
