Here We Stand — Attawapiskat River

Attawapiskat First Nation / Omushkego Cree

Youth-led Omushkego land presence on the Attawapiskat River challenging narratives that traditional territory is unused.

Official campaign site ↗

Why it matters

Mining proponents often claim remote territories are empty. Here We Stand counters that narrative with sustained community presence on the land — tied to Mushkegowuk opposition to Ring of Fire development.

Background

Led by youth including Jeronimo Kataquapit, the camp along the Attawapiskat River reasserts Omushkego stewardship. Mushkegowuk Council has provided financial support matching community fundraising.
