Grassy Narrows — Mercury Justice & Land Defence
Grassy Narrows First Nation (Asubpeeschoseewagong Anishinabek)
Asubpeeschoseewagong Anishinabek pursuing justice for mercury poisoning and defending territory from industrial threats.
Official campaign site ↗Why it matters
Grassy Narrows has fought mercury contamination for generations. The community maintains one of the longest-running land blockades in Canadian history while pursuing legal action against Canada and Ontario.
Background
Industrial mercury dumping poisoned the English-Wabigoon river system. Grassy Narrows continues to demand compensation, river cleanup, and an end to industrial threats — including upstream mining and nuclear waste proposals.
Legal action proceeds with RAVEN and community support. Mercury care home construction began; industrial threats at headwaters remain a live concern.
